We spoke with three of our people who are working to help ensure the reliable and exceptional performance of our business is met, to learn all about their journey with Remington Technology (RT).
Meet Raymond Manamb, Service Technician from our Madang Branch; Andrew Mudugem, Service Technician from our Goroka Branch; and Linda Kasokason, Service Technician from our Port Moresby Branch.
Tell us about your career at Remington Technology so far and your current role.
Raymond: I’ve been at RT coming up to 20 years and am currently a Service Technician at the RT Madang branch. I have travelled and worked in almost all the RT branches. A big part of being a service tech is travelling to different locations to help clients which is great.
Andrew Mudugem: I have been working as a service technician for RT for 13 years. I have lived and worked in RT Madang and RT Goroka. As a service Tech, my role includes; installing, servicing, and repairing photocopiers, printers & multi-functional devices.
Linda Kasokason: Remington Technology was my first job offer straight out of college (Port Moresby Technical college) in 2016. I officially joined the company on 11/1/2017. I work as a Service Technician, servicing office business machines (Printers/scanners/counters). Servicing includes troubleshooting and rectifying hardware and software issues regarding the customer’s machines and maintaining customer satisfaction.
Why did you choose to pursue a career as a Service Technician at Remington Technology?
Raymond: My background is in Electronics, so it was a natural progression to work in this industry. The work environment and culture as well as the benefits are the reasons why I’ve been with the company for so long.
Andrew Mudugem: I chose to pursue a career at Remington Technology because RT provides the best-advanced training for its Service Technicians by overseas-based Trained Certified Konica Minolta Trainers. RT has a culture of training staff and keeping them up to date with the ever-evolving technology, which is vital in my line of work.
Linda Kasokason: The career path and growth opportunities that are provided by RT has helped build my career as a service technician, we continuously are provided training opportunities to build on our skills. I also really like the work culture and environment, especially within the Service Department. Our team works collaboratively, and everyone is willing to help each other. My Boss Andrew Schmidt is one of my inspirations, his patience and commitment has motivated and encouraged me to be the best at what I do in a field that’s predominantly “a man’s work”.
What do you enjoy the most about your current role?
Raymond: For me it’s the travelling as a Service Technician. It has allowed me to see more of PNG than I otherwise would have.
Andrew Mudugem: It’s hard to pinpoint just one! But I’ll say I love keeping customers happy. Our work can be challenging at times, but we all strive to deliver and even surpass our customers’ expectations.
Linda Kasokason: I love it all, however, the Service Trips are the highlight of my current role. You get to see places, meet new people, taste different cuisines when you’re travelling to a client’s location to service their machines.
What’s been your best RT moment? (Most memorable experience at RT).
Raymond: There have been so many great moments, it’s too hard to pick just one, however, one that comes to mind was Remington Technology’s 70th-anniversary celebration. The company threw a party to commemorate this occasion at Lamana Hotel in Port Moresby and arranged for all the staff including the drivers and cleaners to attend even the ones working in the branches outside of Port Moresby! This was back in 2018, I was working in Lae. We all flew to Port Moresby for the event on a Friday and returned to the branches on Sunday.
Andrew Mudugem: My best moments are attending Training Courses on Konica Minolta Products in RT POM with Overseas Based Trainers, meeting RT Superiors, work colleagues and fellow technicians from head office and other branches.
Linda Kasokason: The best RT moment for me was back in 2016, we had a service team car wash and breakfast. It was on a Saturday with all RT service team and their families, we got to meet our colleagues’ families and get to associate with each other outside of a formal environment. That Car Wash and breakfast turned out to be a great team bonding activity.
What advice would you give to someone looking to start their career as a Service Technician?
Raymond: Abide by the policy, ask a lot of questions and read as much as you can. It is important to stay informed and up to date with the latest technology.
Andrew Mudugem: Get to know your colleagues and look for ways to diversify your skillsets. Always be reliable, punctual, honest and be trusted by your colleagues as well as your customers. Lastly, be humble and show respect, it goes a long way.
Linda Kasokason: As a female Service Technician, my biggest advice would be to our future women of Service. Don’t be afraid of a career as a Service Technician, thinking it is for men only. We are more than capable of achieving incredible things! Do not limit yourself because of your gender or circumstances. Lastly, be passionate about your job and accept corrections.
